Dustin Kaiser

Senior Software Engineer - DevOps

Dustin Kaiser was born in Germany. He joined the IT'IS Foundation in November 2021.

Dustin Kaiser joined IT'IS in November 2021 — first as a DevOps engineer, now as a senior software engineer. His core work is maintaining the cloud platforms that power sim4life.io, s4l-lite.io, and tip.science: building backend services, managing releases, and ensuring the stability and uptime of the tools. In addition, he is contributing to the IT'IS internal IT tools, such as HPC services and large data storage, as well as steering the development of custom AI integrations for the Sim4Life platform.

Before IT'IS he completed a PhD in theoretical chemistry at the University of Würzburg, where he modeled molecular spectroscopy and reaction mechanisms and administered the institute's on-premise HPC clusters. Earlier stops include a data-science internship at Hoffmann-La Roche in Basel - computer-aided synthesis planning - and a research stay at the University of Eastern Finland.

His general interest is in the intersection of scientific computing and software engineering: how to make computational research reproducible, how to reliably run workloads on shared infrastructure, and how to build platforms that scientists actually enjoy using.
