Personalized Therapy Planning and Optimization

Inter-individual variability in anatomy and tissue properties (including dielectric heterogeneity and anisotropy) makes reproducible targeting a challenge. We develop efficient tools for stimulation planning and interpretation—including electrode placement, current optimization, and multi-objective (Pareto) analysis—so that targeting improves while off-target modulation is minimized.

Focus Areas

  • Personalized planning: Leveraging Sim4Life’s image-based workflows for invasive and noninvasive neuromodulation (including temporal interference stimulation; TIS).
  • Personalization at scale: Reducing friction in the workflow—from MRI/DTI segmentation to optimization and protocol export—to make individualized planning routine in research and clinical settings.
  • Multi-channel TIS: Designing multi-channel (>2) protocols to further enhance focality and reduce off-target effects (Botzanowski et al., 2025).

Selected Achievements

  • End-to-end TIS planning (TIP): A platform to design, compare, and optimize TIS montages (2-channel, multichannel, phase-modulated) under dose and safety constraints, featuring fully automated personalized workflows for diverse anatomical targets.
