Computational Modeling of Neural Dynamics for Electrical Neuromodulation of Brain Networks, Neuroprosthetics, and Electroceuticals (Senior Scientist / Postdoc)

IT’IS, together with its partner organizations Schmid & Partner Engineering AG (SPEAG), ZMT Zurich MedTech AG (ZMT) and TI Solutions AG, forms the Zurich43 alliance. Z43’s dedicated mission is to expand the knowledge and technology for the (i) characterization, optimization, and application of the electromagnetic (EM) near-field and (ii) predictive modelling of interactions between physical agents and physiology in complex anatomies.

Your challenges:

  • Assist in the design and development of computational models that integrate multiple spatiotemporal scales (from detailed microcircuitry to global network dynamics) of neural processing in the brain
  • Implement these models across a variety of applications including personalized treatment planning for electrical neuromodulation, and the design and optimization of neuroprosthetic devices and electroceutical therapies
  • Support additional topics, e.g., uncertainty assessment, validation, optimization, image-based modelling, biophysical mechanisms, safety evaluation
  • Conduct original, independent research involving the development of simulation technologies, software tools, and platforms for neurostimulation
  • Seek out opportunities for collaboration and funding, ultimately assembling and managing a team

Your strengths:

  • University degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in life sciences, natural sciences (biophysics, physics, mathematics), medical physics, or biomedical engineering
  • Scientific programming competence (Python, C++, Matlab), expert knowledge of computational neuroscience, familiarity with NEURON (Yale)
  • Strong sense of responsibility and commitment to high-quality work standards
  • Self-motivation, good organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, effective multitasking, work independently in a fast-paced environment, can meet tight deadlines
  • Good to excellent command of the English language (both written and spoken), ability to communicate in German a plus
