SEAWave – Scientific-based Exposure and risk Assessment of radiofrequency and mm-Wave systems from children to elderly (5G and Beyond)

Z43 is a partner of the European SEAWave project – short for “Scientific-based Exposure and risk Assessment of radiofrequency and mm-Wave systems from children to elderly (5G and Beyond)” – co-funded by the HORIZON Research and Innovation Actions and the State Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation (SERI, Switzerland).

The goal of SEAWave is to contribute to the scientific basis for health risk assessment of 5G and offer the means for effective health risk communication and results dissemination to stakeholders. 5G operates in two frequency bands, New Radio Frequency 1 and 2 (5G NR FR1 / FR2). Since 2019, 5G NR FR1 has been rapidly deployed in Europe and 5G NR FR2 is expected to be introduced in the next few years. Many exposure parameters of 5G are similar to those of 2G–4G. However, there are also many differences, e.g., in terms of penetration depth and exposure timing for 5G NR FR2, that lead to major knowledge gaps, all of which will be addressed by the SEAWave project.

The interdisciplinary consortium will be led by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and includes altogether 15 international partners from Greece, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, Slovenia and Switzerland with leading expertise in the field.
