MRI-Compatible Leads

Zurich43 is collaborating on the Innosuisse project MRI-Compatible Leads, which officially starts on February 1, 2023.

Electric measurements performed during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) require high-resistance leads to prevent coupling of the currents to the strong magnetic fields of the MRI instrument. The aim of the MRIcompLEAD project is to develop novel leads for applications involving neurostimulation and functional MRI that significantly outperform existing solutions in terms of mechanical stability, that exhibit improved MRI-compatibility with no imaging artifacts, and with heating effects eliminated for improved MRI safety. TI Solutions AG in partnership with the Advanced Fibers Department of the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research (Empa) will explore plasma coating technology as an approach to provide homogeneous high-ohm resistance in metallized polymer fiber leads.
