A Causal Role for the Voltage-Gated Calcium Channel Caᵥ1.2 in Mediating 5G FR1 Effects on Sleep-Associated Brain Health in Humans?

IT’IS is participating in the recently approved project A Causal Role for the Voltage-Gated Calcium Channel Cav1.2 in Mediating 5G FR1 Effects on Sleep-Associated Brain Health in Humans?, funded by the Swiss Federal Office of the Environment (FOEN), which started on November 1, 2022.

Over the next 40 months, the three project partners – the Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology (coordinator) and the University Children’s Hospital Zurich, both of the University of Zurich, and IT’IS – will join efforts to study the effects of exposure to the 5G Frequency Range 1 (5G FR1) on sleep, the sleep electroencephalogram, and sleep-related neurocognitive functions in humans under selective pharmacological blockade of Cav1.2 calcium channels in homozygous carriers of a CACNA1C risk allele. IT’IS will provide the 5G human exposure system necessary for the project, leveraging the results from a previously funded FOEN project (Auswirkungen von 5G Strahlung auf den Menschen).
