IARC Classifies RF EMF as Possibly Carcinogenic to Humans

A Working Group of 31 scientists from 14 countries including researchers of IT'IS, met at IARC in Lyon, France from May 24-31, 2011 to assess the potential carcinogenic hazards from RF EMF exposure. Hundreds of epidemiological and animal cancer studies were reviewed as well as mechanistic and other relevant data.

The evaluation resulted in a classification of RF EMF as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B), based on an increased risk for glioma, a malignant type of brain cancer, associated with wireless phone use. IARC issued an official press release, and a summary of the evaluation will be published on July 1, 2010 in The Lancet Oncology. The full report might become available before the end of the year.
