Schmid & Partner Engineering AG (SPEAG) and ZMT Zurich MedTech AG (ZMT) held their annual Hardware and Software Workshop at the Gachon Convention Center in Sungnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea on 27 October 2017. The workshop is an opportunity to demonstrate Z43's latest innovations and products, and to exchange information on recent advances and solutions for electromagnetic safety assessment and medical applications. DYMSTEC, Z43's sales distribution partner in South Korea, did an outstanding job organizing the event. Approximately 180 engineers and scientists from leading companies, universities, and government institutions of South Korea attended the event, which, as always, was a great success.
The workshop opened with welcome addresses from IT'IS founder and directer Prof. Niels Kuster and DYMSTEC CEO Young Bae Song. This year's workshop was organized into two parallel sessions, one with a focus on SPEAG's solutions for the mobile phone and telecommunications industries and the other, on solutions for life sciences and medical applications, specialized for ZMT and the IT’IS Foundation.
In the session on medical and life industries, Prof. Kuster delivered an overview and progress update on the NEUROMAN project, together with Prof. Beom Sun Chung of the Ajou University School of Medicine and Prof. Jin Seo Park of the Dongguk University School of Medicine. The focus of NEUROMAN is to create the first human (male and female) and monkey computational phantoms that take into consideration anatomical and physiological phenomena for studying the interactions of neurons and electromagnetic fields. Prof. Kuster also introduced the new o2S2PARC project – a large NIH founded program that will allow IT’IS to develop and implement the first comprehensive open source online platform to numerically assess the stimulation of peripheral nerve activity for precise treatment of conditions and diseases. Further, the IT’IS Foundation’s MRIxViP exposure library for comprehensive evaluation of implantable medical devices was presented, in conjunction with ZMT's IMAnalytics module for comprehensive and traceable evaluation of implantable medical devices. The session concluded with invited speakers from Gachon University, the Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), Kookmin University, and the Korea University of Science and Technology (UST).
The workshop closed with a raffle followed by a dinner party.
