This is the second episode of our new video series explaining how the radiofrequency response of active implants can be easily characterized with the latest off-the-shelf benchtop testing equipment and applying the latest assessment procedure.
Z43 is expanding into beautiful new quarters at Ankerstrasse / Kräuelgasse, which include some much-needed meeting spaces. The new workplace, the former headquarters of Fabric Frontline, was inaugurated July 1 with an "Info Day" presentation in the "Salon", followed by an Apéro.
Ilaria Liorni was the winner of the BioEM2019 Arthur Pilla Young Scientist Award for her presentation entitled "Physics-based closed coupling factors for evaluating exposures to gradient magnetic fields".
The ISO 10974 Joint Working Group (JWG) met from June 19 – 21, 2019 to discuss safety aspects of the electromagnetic compatibility of active implants during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exposures.
Max Novelli, Head of Informatics and Data at the Rehabilitation Neural Engineering Laboratory (RNEL) of the University of Pittsburgh, presented a special BBL on "Life in a Neurophysiology lab,...and more", 12 June 2019
IT'IS has just launched a new video series explaining how the radiofrequency response of active implants can be easily characterized with the latest off-the-shelf benchtop testing equipment and applying the latest assessment procedure.
More than 300 participants gathered mid-May at the CMEF Spring 2019 in Shanghai for the “2nd Sino-US Summit Forum of Medical Device Total Product Life Cycle (TPLC) Risk Assessment - Studies on Safety Assurance and Risk Assessment of Active Implanted Devices Medical", co-hosted by the IT’IS Foundation.
IT'IS hosted a Thermal Dose Workshop at Z43 on April 2–3, 2019, for discussions of critical safety issues in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Participants packed the third-floor meeting room for 2 days of presentations on a wide range of pertinent topics and intense discussion to inform the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) MT40 team working on the draft of the latest version of the MRI safety standard 60601-2-33.
Last week during IEC and IEEE joint meetings in New Jersey, the unified SAR measurement standard IEC/IEEE 62209-1528 passed another milestone towards completion. Publication is expected later this year. Two committee drafts (CDs) for exposure assessment of 5G millimeter-wave devices were positively received and are in preparation for the next stage. The IEEE Guide 1528.7 for IoT devices will complete its first draft in June.
Prof. Mario Romero Ortega of the University of Texas at Dallas, the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and the UTA Research Institute visited IT'IS with his BBL presentation "Electronic Interfacing of Peripheral Nerves: Technology and Applications".
The BMES-FDA Frontiers in Medical Devices Conference took place in Washington DC this week, with a focus on personalized patient healthcare and many references to the "digital twin" concept. Concurrently with the conference, the ISO 10974 Joint Working Group (JWG) met to discuss safety aspects of the electromagnetic compatibility of active implants during MRI exposures.
At the latest IEC TC106 JWG13 editorial meeting in Frankfurt, the comment responses for IEC/IEEE 62209-1528 were completed. This is an important standard for exposure evaluation from wireless devices that is now prepared for IoT.
A successful one-day workshop on "Harmonization of Connectivity of the Digital Citizen" – co-organized by the IEEE and IT'IS with support from the ETH Zurich and the Wireless Research Center of North Carolina – was held Wednesday, February 13, 2019.
In an article in the NZZ am Sonntag, the results of the NTP study – that cell phone radiation can cause cancer in rats – are discussed. However, the US Department of Health claims that the findings cannot be extended to human exposures.
